RAWANG: Sex lessons to help wives “serve their husbands better than a first-class prostitute” will be among the courses provided by the Obedient Wives Club (OWC) to help promote harmonious marriages and counter social ills.

Its vice-president Dr Rohaya Mohamad said it was time sexual prowess took a front seat in marriage beyond the traditional “good mother or good cook” roles.

“A good or religious wife is also sexually good in bed,” she told reporters after the launch of the club's Malaysian chapter at the Perangsang Templer Golf Club Saturday.

A husband who was kept happy in the bedroom would have no reason to stray or seek out prostitutes or indulge in other social vices, said Dr Rohaya, who was a medical doctor for 15 years in the Health Ministry before taking a leadership role in the club.

“The family institution is protected and we can curb social ills like prostitution, domestic violence, human trafficking and abandoned babies,” she said, adding that she believed these problems stemmed from unfulfilled sexual needs at home.

Dr Rohaya, said the club would also offer counselling and lecture sessions for wives, husbands or couples.

She said the Malaysian chapter had around 800 members while its Jordan chapter had 200, with the Indonesian chapter set to be launched on June 19 in Jakarta.

When questioned whether wives should remain obedient if their husbands still abused or cheated on them with prostitutes, Dr Rohaya said everyone was subject to God's rule.

“God has his ways and is fair to all. A husband is also subject to God's rule, meaning he can go to hell too. But a woman must be a good wife to the end,” she said, adding that according to Islam, women should pray, fast during Ramadhan, protect their chastity and obey their husbands if they wanted to enter Heaven.

OWC and the Polygamy Club was formed by Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd, an organisation founded by former members of the banned Al-Arqam Islamic group.

A mass wedding reception for eight couples was also held during the launch.

The brides were aged 18 to 22 while the grooms were aged 20 to 48. All are OWC members and agreed that disobedient wives were the cause of many social ills.

400 people volunteered for a one-way trip to Mars

Sure, most of us are curious about what life on Mars would be like. But I'm betting most of us wouldn't volunteer to move there permanently.

There's no shortage of people who would make the one-way trip if given the chance, according to TIME magazine and Fox News. They report Journal of Cosmology editor Lana Tao received about 400 emails from readers eager to move to Mars, excited by an aricle about the possibility of sending humans to the planet.

The article suggested that a one-way trip would be cheaper, making colonization a more realistic option.

This sounds like a scene from a bad science-fiction movie, but Tao assures us its it's for real.

TIME gave an example of the kind of letters Tao has received:
"I am ready to go to Mars. Sign me up," wrote 69-year-old computer programmer Pasha Rostov. "I do VERY well with solitude," he wrote. "I am handy with tools, very good at making things work, have generated my own solar energy, built three houses (with my own hands) and am quite sane and stable."

Some scientists aren't convinced people know what they're volunteering for. Life on Mars could actually be frightfully boring, not to mention fatal.

Malaysia has squandered an estimated RM100 billion on financial scandals under the 22-year rule of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, according to a new book about the former prime minister.

According to Barry Wain, author of the soon-to-be launched ‘Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times’, direct financial losses amounted to about RM50 billion.

This doubled once the invisible costs, such as unrecorded write-offs, were taken into account. The RM100 billion total loss was equivalent to US$40 billion at then prevailing exchange rates.

Barry, who is a former editor of the Asian Wall Street Journal, says most of the scams, which included a government attempt to manipulate the international tin price and gambling by Bank Negara on global currency markets, occurred in the 1980s.

‘Malaysian Maverick’ is the first independent, full-length study of Mahathir, who retired in 2003 after more than two decades as premier. The book will be published globally next week by Palgrave Macmillan.

Wain writes that the Mahathir administration, which took office in 1981 with the slogan, “clean, efficient, trustworthy”, was almost immediately embroiled in financial scandals that “exploded with startling regularity”.

By the early 1990s, he says, cynics remarked that it had been “a good decade for bad behaviour, or a bad decade for good behaviour”.

Secret military deal with US

The book also reveals that:

Mahathir, despite his nationalistic rants, signed a secret security agreement with the United States in 1984 that gave the Americans access to a jungle warfare training school in Johor and allowed them to set up a small-ship repair facility at Lumut and a plant in Kuala Lumpur to repair C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
Mahathir used a secret fund of his ruling Umno to turn the party into a vast conglomerate with investments that spanned almost the entire economy.
Mahathir’s Umno financed its new Putra World Trade Centre headquarters in Kuala Lumpur partly with taxpayers money, by forcing state-owned banks to write off at least RM140 million in interest on Umno loans.
Wain, who is now a writer-in-residence at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, however credits Mahathir with engineering the country’s economic transformation, deepening industrialisation and expanding Malaysia’s middle class.

But Mahathir had undermined state institutions, permitted the spread of corruption and failed to provide for Malaysia’s future leadership, he says.

Proton Holdings bought a 57.75% stake in MV Agusta for €70 million but sold it at €1 (RM4.50) a year later, causing Proton to lose €75.99 million (RM 348 million)?

1. The Bank Bumiputra twin scandals in the early 1980s saw US$1 billion (RM3.2 billion in 2008 ringgit)

2. The Maminco attempt to corner the world tin market in the 1980s is believed to have cost some US$500 million. (RM1.6 billion)

3. Betting in foreign exchange futures cost Bank Negara Malaysia RM30 billion in the 1990s.

4. Perwaja Steel resulted in losses of US$800 million (RM2.56 billion). Eric Chia, was charged with corruption for allegedly steering US$20 million (RM64 million) to a Hong Kong-based company

5. Use of RM10 billion public funds in the Valuecap Sdn. Bhd. operation to shore up the stock market

The Sad Story of Wander The Abused Stray

I'm so furious about how animals are being treated in such manner!!!

For us, it was a bumpy start to the year - one of our volunteers, S, has been feeding the strays for many years and one of the strays named Wander that he has been feeding was badly abused by foreign worker. To many stray feeders, it's a heartbreaking sight for them because the strays are just like their own children. The stray feeders usually spend alot on food etc from their own pocket.

S then tried to self medicate the dog but unfortunately, the wound got really bad that escalated to wound infections.The rest of MWS volunteers got to know about Wander's plight and quickly raised funds to help in Wander's medical bills. Wander had been sent to vet today for medical treatment. Why would someone do such cruel thing to a poor defenceless life?

Our first sight of the dogs was shocking.
The purpose of this post is to document and highlight the current inhumane and abusive treatment of dogs in Singapore, with the hope that worldwide knowledge and attention will support and assist the people in securing adequate and necessary animal welfare protection.

We hate to think how many more strays are being abused and left to suffer to die out there. We know there are foreign workers who kill the strays for their meat.

It's time our local animal welfare should do something to these animal abusers. More harsh penalties should be imposed.

For now, please pray for Wander's speedy recovery.

Wander is currently recuperating at Mdm Wong Shelter.

Lastly, not forgetting S who saved her life. If Wander is left untreated in the wild, she would have die very soon.

Let's do our part in saving these strays and report when we witness any animal abuse.

There are so many so-called photographer got NO art. Only porn! All they want will be indecent sexual picture. There's a fine line between eroticism art & porn. This sorta guys will definitely lean towards the dirty side. No need to see what photography he can do. By the way he wrote & by his face, he is no photographer. All his picture are snapshots. If he is a photographer, than I am God! LOL Hell, and tried to cheapen every girls that he comes across? You can judge yourself. Below post is shared by my friend. Hope you all enjoy~

Tips on Photography: By buying a camera, no matter how expensive, you are just a camera owner. It DOES NOT make you a photographer! The camera DO NOT make the photographer. It can only TAKES the photos, but you are the one MAKING the photos... the art, if you have them.

1) Focusing ~ With an auto-focus camera, always depress the shutter button half-way & let the cam focus. You will see green hi-lighted box appearing in the view finder. The green box is the area where the cam is focusing. If the green box is not at the subject you want, most probably the image will be blur, out-of-focus. You can also check the sharpness on the view finder before pressing the button down all the way. If the view finder show a blur image, DO NOT press the button all the way. Release the button & depress it half-way again. Check again before shooting. Most people get blur image is cos of this, by not pressing the button half-way & check. Pushing the shutter button all the way down at 1 go is NOT the correct way of photography by auto camera!

2) Composition Focusing ~ Sometime when you want the main subject to be at the side of the frame, but the stupid auto cam refuse to focus at the side. In such case, the auto cam will focus at the center which most probably is the background & the main subject will be blur. What to do? No worry. The cam is stupid, but are you? Just shift the cam a little to put the main subject at the center of the frame, press & hold the shutter button half-way to let the cam focus on the main subject. When you see the main subject is sharp, shift the cam back to frame what you want to. The cam is stupid & you can trick it easily. =P

3) +/- Compensation For Light & Dark Background ~ To shoot against a very bright/back-lighted or white background, push +2 to compensate. To shoot against a dark or outdoor night background, push -2 to compensate. This way, the people or main subject in the pic won't be too dark(underexposed) or too white-out(overexposed).

4) Horizon ~ Always watch the horizon or the ground. Level it will the image or you will see a tilted pic. Best is to switch on the grid in the view finder of the camera. I'd seen so many tilted pics that I'm sick of them. For heaven sake, are you always drunk, groggy when shooting pics?

5) Background ~ Always, always watch the background of the subject you want to shoot. NOT noticing the background is forever the mistake of fools with camera! Imagine photographing a gorgeous girl & in sexcitement, you frame her with rubbish bins or a big dirty drain showing behind her?!? WTF? You just destroy a beauty! Move the subject if possible! If subject is not possible to move, MOVE YOURSELF! Move to find a better angle! Be flexible. If you are too fix, you will never be a photographer, not in a million years!

6) Angles ~ Almost everyone who have a camera tend to shoot it at eyes level. OMFG! What's wrong with your bloody brain?!? Robot? Take out cam, stand still, point with hand straight out & shoot? You called that photography?!? Certain subjects will appear better if you shoot it from a lower or higher angle. So, lower your cam or find a higher ground. Sigh... fat will still be fat, no help there, BUT many other subjects can appear better, nicer in photo by using the correct shooting angle. It's called 'optical illusion'. The camera lens DOES NOT operate or view the world like your eyes. What you see with your eyes might not be exactly what the camera will record. That's a mistake most people made. "I can see it, so my photo will turn out as according to what I saw" WRONG!

7) Night/Dark or Low Light Environment ~ How many times have you seen people taking pics at night or indoor/low-light condition without turning on their camera flash & without tripod? You wanna bet the pics will turns out good? In most cases, I will bet you my last dollar that the pics taken that way will be fuck-up lousy! Remember rule #6? What you see is not what you gets in the photo. Your eyes can adept to low light, but the camera has its limit. So, either you up the ISO/ASA known as film speed which most probably, you will gets grainy, blur pic or PLEASE, PLEASE turn on the bloody flash! If your flash is too small or the subject is too far, forgets it. In low light or night environment, try not to place the subject too far away, especially when you have a small flash. I always laughed whenever I see some idiot tries to photo a low-lite huge subject(might be a building or display) a hundred meters away at night. No flash in the world can do it! You need the sun. LOL!

8) Composition ~ How many times that you want a pic of a HUGE subject(a mall display, building, monument or landscape) & you want your friend(s) to be in the pic?... When you completed the shot, where is your friend in the pic? You mean that TINY speck is him/her?!? How the fuck to recognize whether that little dot in the photo is anything but just a dot?!? Idiot! Oh, be console that you are not the only idiot around. Many people make this stupid mistake. Please, for pete sake, MOVE your friend(s) AWAY from that HUGE thing & place them NEARER to you or rather, your camera. That means, first, frame the big subject you want in your cam. Then, place your friend(s) till you see them occupying about a quarter or a fifth of the frame. Full length or half-body portrait will be up to you to decide. STOP! DO NOT press the shutter button just yet. I know what mistake you are going to make... remember rule #2 above? Yeah... after all the arrangement & if you forgets about rule #2, all will be for nothing. So, after your placed the big X'mas tree & your friend(s) nicely in the frame, do rule #2 - means focus the cam on your friends, then shift the cam back to what you want to frame before fully pressing down the shutter button. There! If you did it correctly, what you will get is a pic with the big X'mas tree nicely in the background & your friends appearing recognizable with big smiling faces in the foreground.

P/S: Oh... in case if any1 ask why my language is so asshole fuck-up, tell them if they wanna be pamper by sweet words, go find their mommy to teach or pay for a photography course. LOL!

Dolphin deaths spark renewed opposition to RWS plans

Animal welfare activists are up in arms over Resorts World Sentosa‘s (RWS) decision to proceed with its plan to keep dolphins in its oceanarium despite the death of two of the seven bottlenose dolphins in its possession.

According to The Straits Times, the move has drawn flak from animal welfare groups who are urging the integrated resort to reconsider its decision to keep dolphins in its upcoming Marine Life Park.

The two female dolphins — caught from the wild in the Solomon Islands — died from a melioidosis bacterial infection while being held in the Malaysian island of Langkawi two months ago. Melioidosis is a soil-borne disease, with infections occurring primarily during the rainy season.

The deaths have again sparked fresh opposition to RWS’ plans to house the animals as entertainers. Last May, RWS scrapped a controversial plan to exhibit whale sharks. It explained that it might not be able to care for the animals which can grow up to 15m long and weigh up to 15 tonnes.

Marine conservationist Paul Watson told Today newspaper the “incarceration of dolphins lowers life expectancy of the animals”.

“It’s a trade based on blood and misery and has no place in the 21st century,” said the founder and president of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) executive director Deirdre Moss echoed his views.

”This is a tragedy. The animals were obviously under tremendous stress… If RWS could change its stand on whale sharks, why couldn’t they on dolphins?”

Mr Robin Goh, assistant director of communications at RWS, said the pair of dolphins were perfectly healthy prior to the infection. He added that other animals in holding have not shown any signs of infection.

As for the 18 dolphins being trained at Ocean Adventure Park in the Philippines for the Marine Life Park, RWS said they were in “good health”.

“We’re continuing with the development and establishment of the medical, behavioural, husbandry and training programmes that include the preventive medicine programme to ensure the well-being and health of the dolphins,” said Mr Goh.

The oceanarium — set to be the world’s largest aquarium – takes up a whopping 80,000 square metres, and was part of the resort’s proposal when Genting International won the bid to build the Sentosa integrated resort in 2006. It is scheduled to open next year.

“We’re committed to delivering the bid and the Marine Life Park that will not only boost tourism but research, conservation and education in marine mammals in this part of the region,” Mr Goh added.

However, Ms Moss reiterated: “It’s cruel to capture these animals from the wild with a view to entertain the public. We should promote tourism but not at the expense of these animals.”

PARIS (AFP) - – European astronomers on Wednesday said a galaxy born in the childhood of the Universe lies at least 13 billion light years away, making it the remotest object ever observed.
Light from the galaxy UDFy-38135539 that reaches Earth today was emitted when the cosmos was only 600 million years old and mired in a primordial "fog" of hydrogen atoms, they said.
It has taken 13.1 billion years, travelling at 300,000 kilometres (186,000 miles) per second, for this smudge of infant light to arrive.
The study, appearing in the British journal Nature, used a giant European telescope in Chile's Atacama desert to measure the galaxy's so-called redshift.
The more distant a light source is, the longer its wavelength stretches. In other words, a light that appears to be receding from the observer shifts more towards the red part of the optical spectrum.
In this case, the galaxy's redshift was 8.6, making it the most distant object ever observed by spectroscopy.
The previous documented record, in 2009, was a redshift of 8.2 caused by a gamma-ray burst of a super-massive star. An object at a redshift of 10 was once reported but has never been confirmed.
"Measuring the redshift of the most distant galaxy so far is very exciting in itself, but the astrophysical implications of this detection are even more important," said Nicole Nesvadba of France's Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale.
"This is the first time we know for sure that we are looking at one of the galaxies that cleared out the fog which had filled the very early Universe."
Under the "Big Bang" theory, the Universe originated in a superheated-flash around 13.7 billion years ago and started to expand.
After the cosmos had cooled a little, electrons and protons teamed up to form hydrogen, which for hundreds of millions of years filled the Universe.
During this epoch, known as the Universe's "Dark Ages," there were no stars. It was followed by a period known as reionisation, in which the first stars formed and their intense ultra-violet radiation managed to pierce the hydrogen fog.
Understanding reionisation would also help to explain the formation of the first galaxies. But the starlight needed for evidence has -- until now -- been absent because of the opaque mist that shrouded the Universe at this time.
One theory is that the light from the newly-discovered galaxy was able to penetrate the fog because it was helped by other, nearby galaxies.
"Without this additional help, the light from the galaxy, no matter how brilliant, would have been trapped in the surrounding hydrogen fog and we would not have been able to detect it," said astronomer Mark Swinbank of Durham University, northeast England.
UDFy-38135539 -- whose name comes from its location in the "Ultra Deep Field" zone of deep space -- was first spotted last year by the US orbital telescope Hubble.
The dim light intrigued astronomers poring over the reionisation enigma, said lead author Matt Lehnert of the Observatoire de Paris.
They begged the boss of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to give them special time on the Very Large Telescope (VLT), which has a highly sensitive redshift-measuring spectroscope.
Sixteen hours of observation, using a very long exposure time, enabled a clearer image of the galaxy, but two months of analysis and testing were needed to confirm the data.
In terms of distance, the gap between Earth and the galaxy is likely to be far higher than 13 billion light years, ESO told AFP.
This is because the Universe has been expanding since the time when the light was first emitted. As a result, the light has had to travel longer in order to "catch up" with us.

Two priests go on vacation

Two priests decided to go to Hawaii on vacation.

They were determined to make this a real vacation by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy. As soon as the plane landed they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, etc.

The next morning they went to the beach dressed in their 'to! urist' garb. They were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the sunshine and the scenery when a 'drop dead gorgeous' blonde in a topless bikini came walking straight towards them.. They couldn't help but stare.

As the blonde passed them she smiled and said 'Good Morning, Father ~ Good Morning, Father,' nodding and addressing each of them individually, then she passed on by. They were both stunned. How in the world did she know they were priests? So the next day, they went back to the store and bought even more outrageous outfits.

These were so loud you could hear them before you even saw them! Once again, in their new attire, they settled down in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine. After a little while, the same gorgeous blonde, wearing a different colored topless bikini, taking her sweet time, came walking toward them. Again she nodded at each of them, said

'Good morning, Father ~ Good morning, Father,'and started to walk away. One of the priests couldn't stand it any longer and said, 'Just a minute, young lady.' 'Yes, Father?' Previously I shared a post on Christian jokes. Now I want to share you something interesting. Sometimes what people thought things should be ashamed of can be other's pride and another way round.

Four friends, who hadn't seen each other in 30 years, reunited at a party. After several drinks, one of the men had to use the rest room. Those who remained talked about their kids.

The three friends congratulated each other just as the fourth returned from the restroom and asked: 'What are all the congratulations for?'

One of the three said: 'We were talking about the pride we feel for the successes of our sons. ... What about your son?'

The fourth man replied: 'My son is gay and makes a living dancing as a stripper at a nightclub.'

The three friends said: 'What a shame... what a disappointment.'

This week I'm continuing my focus on SEO and how to get quality links to your blog or website to boost your ranking in the search engines. On Monday I chatted about the 5 rules of linking, yesterday we covered the basics of link bait - what it is and I gave you a few examples of successful link bait.

Today I'm going to give you a few ideas and strategies to get high quality sites to link to you. A reminder: Link bait is a web page that is specifically designed to get other websites to link to it.

Why does link bait work?

One of the reasons link bait is so powerful is because it's viral. If you come up with a truly killer headline and web page, people will scramble to tweet about it and post it on their blog. Social media users will rush to post it on their favorite social media site so that they can get the karma, points or votes that come with posting a popular link. Other's will see your link posted and repost again and again.

Just to illustrate: If every time someone posts your link, two other people see it and re-post it, the cycle will look as follows: 1 person posts it. 2 people see it and re-post. 4 people see the 2 links posted and repost. Then 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512... So after just 9 cycles of re-posting you have 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512 which equals 1023 people linking to your site.

I'm going to spend a lot more time on The Daily Feed discussing virality, viral co-efficients, viral loops and viral growth. But for now just take my word for it that viral growth is very powerful and very good provided it is growth in a desirable target market.

The other reason link bait is so powerful is because of the high quality links it provides. A single link from a major news outlet like CNN or BBC or a single link from a major government or university website is worth pure gold. If you're able to consistently get very high quality links like this every month or 3, you're pretty much guaranteed page 1 for several categories in your sector.

So how the heck do you write a page that everyone loves and wants to tell their friends about? Here are a few ideas:

Write or do something funny. Matt Inman, a designer from Seattle is a genius at funny linkbait. Check out this take on Twighlight. Linked to from The Huffington Post and many other high profile sites.
Write an article praising a blogger. See Jason Calcanis post on link baiting him.
Build a useful web tool or application
Make a valuable resource. Lists are always popular. Write a how-to guide or a well researched historical article.
Interview someone famous
Be the first in doing something on the Internet
Expose a scam, a scammer or rant about bad service or a bad product
Disagree with an authority. I mentioned BoingBoing taking on Wired yesterday - great example.
Be controversial.
Get a scoop on a story in your niche
Make a tool that others put on their sites and link to you.
Write an outrageous theory and back it up with logic. A recent computer science paper got over 700 votes on the popular geek website Hacker News and many other sites including Digg.com and Reddit.com. Turns out the publication may be incorrect, but it received a huge amount of publicity.

So what is link bait? Link bait is any page on a blog or website that is designed specifically to get others to link to that page or the website in general. The goal is to get high quality "backlinks" - which are other websites that link to your site.

A great example of link bait is BoingBoing's recent blog entry refuting Wired Magazine's articleclaiming the web is dead. How successful was it? Less than a week after hitting the publish button Google has indexed 235 new inbound links to that BoingBoing URL alone. Many of the links are very high quality and include GigaOm and Wired themselves. Bingo!!

A few of things that made BoingBoing's linkbait successful are:

The headline: "Is the Web really dead?" The headline is the most critical part of link-bait. More below.
It's informational - BoingBoing actually did some research to put this article together and they present useful data.
It's current. Wired's article is on this month's cover of the dead-tree version of their magazine. It's being talked about all over the web and offline including on NPR (national public radio which is very popular in the USA)
It's emotional and taps into something controversial.

BoingBoing is already a successful blog but the reality is that anyone could have done this research, turned Wired's story against them and gotten a flood of traffic.

Some of the blog entries I've posted on my personal blog have either intentionally or inadvertently become link-bait. (sorry, no links as I'd rather not promote my personal site here):

A blog entry titled "If your bank doesn’t like your startup’s blog, they may freeze your funds". I broke this story about a friend's business who was being discriminated against by their bank. It ended up on the Financial Times, ValleyWag, GigaOm and many other A-list blogs and newspaper sites with back-links.
A blog entry complaining about a large company's unresponsive sales team. It was picked up on a very popular social media website and got over 10,000 uniques in 24 hours with lots of new inbound links. A day later a senior manage from Dell called me to repair the relationship.
A blog entry on how to launch a startup in 10.5 hours. This actually was the start of Feedjit. Also was very popular on several social media sites, got a ton of new links and is still my most popular blog entry to this day. As a footnote: The blog entry is of course a bit of hyperbole. No one creates a business in 10.5 hours. But it makes for a great headline! :-)
"Think you work hard? Think again". I created this headline and blog entry to help promote a friend's business and it worked. Over 8,000 uniques in a day to this page alone. It's still my 4th most popular page on the site. The slightly controversial or challenging headline is what made it work.

The Daily Feed Issue #10: The rules of linking

Just a quick note on our book due this week titled "The little black book of free online marketing. From launch to your first 5,000 visitors per day and beyond". After a long weekend of work we've made the call to delay it an additional week. We're going to be adding more material including a bonus section and we also want to allow more time for editing.

I did promise you something special this week, so Tuesday (tomorrow) morning's edition will have a surprise and you're going to have to wait until then to find out what it is.

This week I'm covering the last and most powerful part of the SEO philosophy I introduced you to last week. My SEO philosophy in case you are one of the 3049 new subscribers we've gotten since Friday's issue went out is:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

Today I'm covering "make sure the right people know about them". Having valuable content that is new, unique, useful, user-friendly and that a search engine can understand is great. But there are millions of websites out there that have all these basic ingredients. So how does Google, Yahoo, Bing and friends determine which websites should rank higher than others, assuming all on-site factors are equal? By using a kind of reputation system.

Each search engine has it's own algorithm for figuring out your reputation. I'm going to focus on Google exclusively because 80% to 90% of your search engine traffic will come from Google.

In the beginning - meaning 1996 when Google launched as "Backrub" at Stanford, Larry And Sergey used an algorithm called Pagerank to rank web pages. Previously search engines had relied mostly on the text on individual websites to figure out which site would rank higher. Larry and Sergey introduced a reputation system that was a huge breakthrough. It gave search engines a way to take two pages that both look useful and determine which page people on the web like more or find more useful.

Pagerank is a simple reputation system. It starts off by giving everyone a score of (lets say) one. Then it starts walking through the link structure of the web (or the link graph as it's called in geek speak) calculating who is linking to whom. It figures out your score by looking at who is linking to you and who links to them.

An exhaustive explanation of pagerank is more than you want to read. So I'm going to give you a few simple rules to follow to get Google to like you:

Rule #1: Never get someone with a low quality or spammy site to link to you. Ever.

This will hurt your ranking in Google and it's tough to recover once you've been flagged as a spam site or part of a "bad neighborhood".

Rule #2: All links are good provided they are from good quality websites.

The site that links to you doesn't have to get a huge amount of traffic or even have a super high pagerank. Just make sure they have good quality content that isn't spammy and that the people who link to them are good quality sites too.

Rule #3: Focus on getting links from sites that are related to yours.

About 70% or more of the sites that link to you should be related to your content. If a high quality site wants to link to you and they're unrelated, say yes! But focus your link building on sites that are related to yours. That will ensure that you rank highly for the correct keywords and that you'll get the kinds of visitors you want.

Rule #4: Only link to high quality sites no matter how badly someone begs or pleads that you link to them.

Linking to a spam or low quality site will hurt your ranking.

Rule #5: Link text is very important.

Link text is the text that appears as (usually blue) underlined text that surfers click on. With images that are linked, the link text is the text contained in the "ALT" attribute of the image. If someone links to you and the link text is "holiday accommodation website" then Google will assume that you should rank a little higher for anything related to holiday accommodation. When you ask a website for a link, be very specific about what link text they use. Some bloggers and site owners will want to put their own text in the link, but try to influence them into having link text that is targeted and will attract the kinds of Google users that you want.

One last note: If someone links to you, make sure they're not including a nofollow attribute. That will cause the link to not pass any pagerank to your site. You can learn more about nofollow on this wikipedia entry.

We're continuing our focus on getting and keeping search engine traffic. This week we've introduced a broad philosophy to get and keep traffic from the search engines:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

We've covered creating new, unique, useful and user-friendly web pages. Today we're going to chat about creating pages and websites that Google can understand.

Does your domain name matter?

Years ago Google would index search keywords in your domain name. These days your choice of domain name has little effect on your ranking in the search results unless the name contains an obscene word or was used by a black hat (bad) SEO before you and has been black-listed.

The most important factors when choosing a domain name are:

It must be easy to remember
It doesn't have to be short. HuffingtonPost is the most popular blog in the world.
It should have words that are related to what it does. e.g. RescueTime.com sells time management software. MediaPiston.com is a copywriting service.
It must be easy to spell
It must be easy to pronounce
It should not contain dashes - when someone remembers your domain, they won't remember if it included dashes or not.
It should be a dot-com. .org'ers argue with me if you like, but dot-com's are still the most memorable domains.

I would also avoid domains that incorporate a top level domain into the spelling. For example: "del.icio.us". It worked as a marketing gimmick for Delicious back when they launched, but even they chose to buy delicious.com and replace their original fancy spelling with a plain vanilla dot-com domain.

What about URL structure?

Your URL's should contain words that describe each page on your site separated by dashes. This is not a good URL:

http://example.com/?p=2343

This is a good URL:

http://example.com/how-to-bake-a-cake.html

Search engines index the words in your URL and give them slightly greater emphasis than the text that appears in your page content. You must use dashes instead of underscores. Google treats words separated by underscores as one big word. Here is Google's Matt Cutts explaining why you should use dashes in your URL's. Notice the URL of the page I linked to. It's well formed with dashes separating the words. Matt uses a forward slash at the end of his blog entry URL's. You can also use a .html extension - either works just as well.

Cross linking is key

Every page of content on your site should cross link to other content. If you have a blog, throw in a link to older blog posts you've written at every opportunity. Don't go too wild - just 1 to 3 links are fine. I tend to get peeved at sites that cross link too much, so only link to content that is actually relevant to what you're writing about. As the amount of content on your site grows, you'll have more fuel to cross-link to.

Cross-linking is important because not only does it help search engines find your content, but it helps them figure out which content is the most important. Google does this by calculating internal page rank for each page on your site. It figures out which pages you're linking to most often and emphasizes those pages in the results. The result is that important pages like your home page are ranked higher than content deeper in your site.

This week we're focusing on getting and keeping search engine traffic. Earlier this week I introduced a general philosophy for SEO:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

We've been breaking down this philosophy as a broad approach to SEO and discussing each of the colored words above. As the weeks progress we'll dive deeper into each of the elements in this approach. Rest assured that you're building a solid foundation in SEO and that the principles I outline in the coming weeks are the same principles that the busiest and most successful websites in the world use to get and keep search engine traffic.

So far we've introduced the importance and the meaning of creating 'new' and 'unique' content. Today we're going to cover 'useful' and 'user-friendly' as it relates to search engine traffic.

"useful"

When I write these newsletters I try to pack in facts you can use. If I just have a bunch of fluff every day just so I can send you one useful piece of data every second week, you're probably going to get your advice somewhere else right? Google feels the same way about the web pages it sends visitors to. The page should answer the question the web surfer asked Google as effectively as possible. If another page is more useful and Google is doing their job right, they should send the surfer there instead.

If you have a website on quilting and Google sends you someone wanting to know how to do a rag edge stitch (don't ask me how I know about this) you'd better tell them how to stitch rag edge with as much useful information as possible. If you don't the visitor isn't going to be very happy with you or with Google's ability to find stuff. They'll leave your site and they'll go and use Bing. [No offense Bingers!]

"user-friendly"

Ever arrived on a site and a box appears in the middle of your browser obscuring the content? Or how about those sites where the ad blocks the entire site until you click close, at which point it opens a popup window. Doesn't that just make you want to climb into the screen and...

Once again, lets think like a Google employee. We want the websites we send searchers to:

To be Fast! Remember last week's focus on speed? This is massively important when it comes to user-friendliness and user satisfaction. I hope you took notes.
To be Easy to navigate. Menu's should be clear and easy to access and understand.
To contain the same content that the search engine indexed. Sites that show search engine crawlers one thing and then visitors another get banned from Google. This technique is called cloaking and it's very bad.
To have content that is easy to read and not obscured by a bunch of ads.

Earlier this week I was again reminded of the importance of speed. Our site load time dropped by about a second thanks to high traffic across our servers. The conversion rate (number of people who buy things) dropped by a few percentage points as a few people who were used to our pages loading in a tenth of a second didn't want to wait around for a mere extra second.

Making your site fast and user-friendly is an ongoing project. The good news is that every improvement you make yields measurable results that increase user loyalty and revenue.

Tomorrow I'm going to start chatting about building a website that Google (and other search engines) can understand. It's is a big subject and it will probably overflow into next week when we'll finish with the other really big subject of SEO: letting the right people know about your site ( also called link development).

Yesterday I told you the secret of getting and keeping search engine traffic. In case you're new, the secret is:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

Feel different? You should. You're now a member of a select club who knows how to get search engine traffic. Lets break down two of the underlined sections in this sentence:

"new"

Everything else being equal, new content will rank higher than older content in search engine results. Of course everything isn't equal. But this is an important factor because you are competing against a lot of other useful and unique web pages out there, so if you can be newer, why not!

As a broad strategy this means that you need to create a constant stream of new content on your site. Write a new page every week for your wine website covering a new variety of grape. Write a new blog entry each day if you're a blogger. If you're out of ideas on what to write on, revisit older blog entries and write an updated version on the same subject.

Pretend you're Google: A friend asks you to recommend a good article on Merlot grapes. You find two of them and they're very similar so you recommend the newer one. Google does the same thing.

"unique"

Pages on your blog or website must be unique. This is glaringly obvious, but certain brain dead SEO's still copy other people's web pages on their own website and pretend they own them. Google is very good at recognizing duplicate content and if you do this you will incur the dreaded duplicate content penalty! Google will penalize you and you will drop out of the top search results. Don't do it.

Be careful of even grabbing a few paragraphs of someone else's content unless you add a lot of value to it with your own content that surrounds it.

Pretend you're Google: Would you want to send a web surfer to a bad copy of a web page or to the original?

That's all on SEO for today. Interesting blog battle I ran across today: Wired Magainze's Chris Anderson and Michael Wolff published a piece in Wired titled "The Web is Dead. Long live the Internet". BoingBoing called them on it with some interesting data of their own - and rightly so. I'm going to cover link building later this week or early next, but I bring this up because it's a classic time-tested strategy of building links to your blog or website. Wired publishes a controversial article and gets a ton of inbound links from irritated readers telling them they're full of it. And BoingBoing goes right ahead and plays the good guy calling them on it and gets a ton of inbound links and social media exposure too. Awesome! Both websites win and we're given some interesting opinion pieces to read. Learn from these guys!

We're continuing SEO week today with a new approach to thinking about SEO and getting visitors from search engines. Yesterday we chatted about how many visitors you can expect, the level of difficulty and how long it takes. We also covered avoiding snake oil salesmen, that this isn't brain surgery and that you can do it too!

In this issue I'm going to introduce a philosophy that you can use to get Google and other search engines to send a constant stream of targeted visitors to your blog or website.

Google wants to send you visitors and they need your help to do it. They are in the business of helping web surfers find answers to their questions. If your page has the answers and Google isn't sending people to it, they're not doing their job!

You can take one of two approaches to SEO: You can view SEO as tricking search engines into sending you traffic, or you can try to help search engines do their job better.

If you choose to trick or control what they do, you're going to have to gain a deep understanding of the algorithms they use, keep up to date on how they change - and you're going to be up against some of the smartest computer scientists in the world. If you're crazy enough to take this approach I've included links to Google's original PageRank algorithm and the Hilltop algorithm's paper to get you started. You should also be warned that if you're discovered you'll be black-listed and will have to start over on a new website.

For the rest of you sane folks, I'm going to give you a broad strategy that will get you search engine traffic and help you keep it.

Here is the secret to getting a constant stream of visitors to your site from Google or any other search engine:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

I'm going to break this sentence down into parts and we're going to focus on each of these parts for the rest of the week. Here it is again, with each important part color coded and underlined:

"Create new, unique and useful web pages, host them on a user-friendly website that Google can understand and make sure the right people know about them."

If you stop reading now and never read another issue of The Daily Feed and you follow the above sentence exactly, you will succeed at SEO. If you don't succeed, come and ask me why and I'll explain to you which of the underlined items in the above sentence you neglected to do.

Think my 151 character SEO philosophy is too simple? It contains every major element that the best SEO's in the world use. I've used this approach myself, seen it used to great effect by successful friends. Even employees like Matt Cutts recommend this approach. [In fact part of that sentence is taken from something Matt once said.]

The Daily Feed Issue #5: It's SEO Week!

Welcome to issue #5 of The Daily Feed. This is SEO week! This week I'm going to teach you how to get more visitors to your blog or website from organic search results for free.

Let me say that again: If you take my advice this week, you will get more customers or readers visiting your website and it won't cost you a dollar, yen, pound or euro.

First lets get our terminology straight: "Organic search results" are the search results you see when you do a search on Google. Organic results take up most of the body of the page. "Paid search", "Paid inclusion", "Paid placement" are all terms that mean that you are paying Google or another search engine to feature your company in a prominent position in the search results.

Now let's chat about how big the reward is. Here's my scale based on visitors per day, difficulty and time to achieve your goal:

50 targeted visitors per day: Easy. A few days to 3 months to achieve.
500 targeted visitors per day: Medium difficulty. 1 to 6 months.
5,000 un-targeted visitors per day: Medium difficulty. 3 months to 1 year.
15,000 un-targeted visitors per day: Medium difficulty. 3 months to 1 year.
1,000 targeted visitors per day: Medium. 6 months to 1 year.
5,000 targeted visitors per day. Hard. 1 year or more.
15,000 targeted visitors per day. (At this point you're printing money). Very hard. 1 year or more.

Note: These are absolutely NOT guarantees. This is based on my personal experience and what I've seen others achieve. Which brings me to...

Rule #1: Beware the snake oil salesman.

While researching this article today I once again ran across an ad guaranteeing that you'll be indexed by Google within 7 days. No person or company controls how Google ranks web pages or at what rate they index sites other than Google themselves and Google never offers performance guarantees. So a guarantee of results is generally a red flag. Google has a great help page on SEO, a few tips to get started and tips on what to avoid.

If you are considering hiring an SEO firm, here is a general list of things to consider and a few red flags:

If they guarantee performance it's an immediate red flag. Drop them.
How did you find out about the company? If you found them in organic search results while researching SEO, that's a good sign. If they spammed you or cold called you it's probably a bad sign.
If you need to link to them or they are going to create a separate website to help promote your own website, drop them.
Make sure it's SEO you're buying and that they're not using your money to simply buy paid placement ads with Google or another ad provider.
If they offer to link to your site from other websites they own in order to promote your site, make sure you know which sites are going to be linking to you. If a bad site links to you it can hurt your rankings.

Rule #2: Anything an SEO guru can do, you can do too.

SEO isn't a new branch of calculus. It is not hard to understand and it isn't hard to do. By following a few basic steps you can get a steady stream of targeted readers or customers from Google. No only that, if you follow the steps I'm going to give you this week, you will be helping Google by making the people who use their search engine happier with Google's service.

Daily Feed Issue #3: Speed and page structure

Welcome to Friday's issue of The Daily Feed. It's actually just past midnight here on Saturday the 14th. We have a policy of locking ourselves in a padded cell to avoid any mishaps on Friday the 13th, and I just got out and rushed to my desk to get this mail off to you.

Today we're going to chat about the page structure on your blog or website and how it affects load times. If you're a new subscriber (we've had over 2000 new subscriptions today) we've spent this week focusing on blog and website speed, why it's important and how to measure it.

To summarize our story thus far:

Google proved that speed is possibly the most important thing when it comes to user satisfaction on your site. New visitors will stay on your site and existing visitors will keep coming back.
The most important thing to have a fast blog or website is to minimize the number of page components (images, flash, scripts, stylesheets). Loading lots of components is a speed killer, especially for people geographically far away from your blog's web server.
The second most important thing is page size. Make sure all images and flash apps are small. Try to get your page size under 500K total.
You can very effectively measure page performance with YSlow and the developer tools in Firebug, Chrome (my favorite) and Safari.

One last comment about user satisfaction: What irritates you the most on the web? When you search for something on Google, you see a search result that you just KNOW has what you want, and you click it only to see a blank page or half a page that hangs for 10...15...30 seconds while it's waiting for something to load. It helps to think like a visitor to your own website. You'd like your site to be fast and the content to be helpful. (more about content next week)

Enough preaching, lets chat about page structure and how it affects performance...

Use external scripts and CSS

Avoid embedding CSS and Javascript in your page. When you see SCRIPT or STYLE tags in your HTML source with huge chunks of data between them, that's bad. Instead, put the scripts in external files and link to those files with a src= or href= attribute. This structure will allow your browser to cache the scripts so that it doesn't have to load them for for every page on your site.

Use tables sparingly

Most tables aren't displayed by a browser until the browser has loaded the closing table tag in your HTML. Small tables are OK because they load quickly but if your entire site is one big table you should do a few tests to make sure you're not preventing your page from displaying as it loads.

Put external scripts that don't display anything at the bottom of your page

If you have scripts like the private version of Feedjit Pro that doesn't display anything but lets you watch your traffic in real-time, put it at the end of your web page. That way the browser can load the page elements that the user needs to see first and then load the invisible elements on the page last.

Avoid having too much javascript executing on your page

Flash animation on your page will generally execute quickly and won't slow down page loading. But javascript animation that draws floating boxes that move, snowflakes that rain down or anything else that constantly moves will slow down your page.

Advanced tip

If you're a developer and are adding javascript to your website or building full blown javascript applications, make sure you profile (measure the speed of) your javascript execution. Chrome, IE and Safari have built in profilers but Chrome is leading the way as usual. Just open Chrome developer tools and click profile to see where your script is spending the most time executing.

stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a

I took his vital
signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be
over an hour before someone
would to able to see him. I saw him
looking at his watch and decided, since I
was not busy with another
patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was
well healed, so
I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to
remove his
sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of
his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's
appointment this
morning, as
he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to
the nursing home to eat
breakfast with his wife.
I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she
had been there
for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we
talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was
a bit late.

He replied that she no longer knew who he
was, that she had not recognized him in
five years now.

I was
surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every
morning, even
though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he
patted my hand and said,

'She doesn't

tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and

TAWAU: A Sabah MP has charged that bad governance and widespread corruption in the country are the cause of the massive RM362 billion debt the country has accumulated over the years.

“It is wrong to give the perception that the accumulated debt of RM362 billion is due mainly to the subsidies given to the people," Tawau MP Chua Soon Bui said.

She said the arguments by federal leaders for ending the subsidies were just a desperate measure to cover up for “their past recklessness in managing the country's resources”.

The government contends that its subsidy programme costs it RM74 billion annually.

Chua said by declaring that the country would go bankrupt if government aid is continued, the government is pinning the blame on the subsidy programme and holding the people to ransom.

Chua said the government should be transparent on how the nation had built up the huge debt.

“The people should be given the right perspective and the truth on how the RM362 billion debt was accumulated.

"For the past 10 years, auditing on government's wastage, misuse, and leakages of public funds is long overdue. The people deserved to know the truth.”

Chua was responding to a statement by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Idris Jala that Malaysia must cut its growing debt by 2019 or risk bankruptcy.

Grandiose and questionable undertakings

Chua, who is also a vice-president of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), said that serious efforts should be made to identify and eliminate all the weaknesses and loopholes that lead to wastage and leakages of the taxpayers' money.

She pointed out that grandiose and questionable undertakings like the Perwaja steel project, Bakun Dam hydropower project, Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), purchase of dubious military hardware and infrastructure projects like the Sapulut-Kalabakan road project in Tawau were just a few instances of government's wastage and extravagance.

Chua also said that while the Auditor-General's annual reports have identified various irregularities in government spending, little has been done to rectify them.

As such, she added, it is rather pathetic of the government to harp on the need to cut subsidies.

Chua also dismissed the government's bid to gather feedback from the public on the proposed subsidy cuts to save RM103 billion as a ploy.

She said government has not bothered to get public feedback on other bona fide issues such as the planned increase in levy on foreign workers, the proposed construction of the controversial coal-power plant in Lahad Datu, Sabah , and the hastily withdrawn increase in penalties for traffic offences.

Rampant smuggling

Chua said it was disheartening to know that the authorities are still unable to stamp out the rampant smuggling of subsidised goods through Sandakan and Tawau to neighbouring countries.

She said the smuggling of subsidised essential consumer goods like fuel, rice, cooking oil, sugar and flour represented an extra loss to the government because it defeated the government’s objective of helping the poor and those from the low-income bracket.

Chua added that the government needs to "thoroughly review the proposed 10th Malaysia Plan and remove all those unnecessary mega-projects and implement only basic infrastructure projects such as power and water supply".

Professor Frank Fenner has warned that the human race can not survive

As the scientist who helped eradicate smallpox he certainly know a thing or two about extinction.

And now Professor Frank Fenner, emeritus professor of microbiology at the Australian National University, has predicted that the human race will be extinct within the next 100 years.

He has claimed that the human race will be unable to survive a population explosion and 'unbridled consumption.’

Fenner told The Australian newspaper that 'homo sapiens will become extinct, perhaps within 100 years.'

'A lot of other animals will, too,' he added.

'It's an irreversible situation. I think it's too late. I try not to express that because people are trying to do something, but they keep putting it off.'

Since humans entered an unofficial scientific period known as the Anthropocene - the time since industrialisation - we have had an effect on the planet that rivals any ice age or comet impact, he said.

Fenner, 95, has won awards for his work in helping eradicate the variola virus that causes smallpox and has written or co-written 22 books.

He announced the eradication of the disease to the World Health Assembly in 1980 and it is still regarded as one of the World Health Organisation's greatest achievements.

He was also heavily involved in helping to control Australia's myxomatosis problem in rabbits.

Last year official UN figures estimated that the world’s population is currently 6.8 billion. It is predicted to exceed seven billion by the end of 2011.

Fenner blames the onset of climate change for the human race’s imminent demise.

He said: 'We'll undergo the same fate as the people on Easter Island.

'Climate change is just at the very beginning. But we're seeing remarkable changes in the weather already.'

'The Aborigines showed that without science and the production of carbon dioxide and global warming, they could survive for 40,000 or 50,000 years.

‘But the world can't. The human species is likely to go the same way as many of the species that we've seen disappear.'

Simon Ross, the vice-chairman of the Optimum Population Trust, said: 'Mankind is facing real challenges including climate change, loss of bio-diversity and unprecedented growth in population.'

Professor Fenner's chilling prediction echoes recent comments by Prince Charles who last week warned of ‘monumental problems’ if the world’s population continues to grow at such a rapid pace.

And it comes after Professor Nicholas Boyle of Cambridge University said that a 'Doomsday' moment will take place in 2014 - and will determine whether the 21st century is full of violence and poverty or will be peaceful and prosperous.

This one’s kinda hard to swallow so take a deep breath, open your minds, and pretend it’s 2100. I CONTACT is essentially a mouse fitted to your eyeball. The lens is inserted like any other normal contact lens except it’s laced with sensors to track eye movement, relaying that position to a receiver connected to your computer. Theoretically that should give you full control over a mouse cursor. I’d imagine holding a blink correlates to mouse clicks.

The idea was originally created for people with disabilities but anyone could use it. Those of us too lazy to use a mouse now have a free hand to do whatever it is people do when they sit at the computer for endless hours. I love the idea but there is a caveat. How is the lens powered? Perhaps in the future, electrical power can be harnessed from the human body, just not in a Matrix creepy-like way.

This is pretty scary, as is (its modus operandi is similar) with the case of
Ms Canny Ong

A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. When she had
filled her gas tank after paying at the pump and about to leave, the
attendant inside came over the speaker.
He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to
come inside to pay.

The lady was confused because the transaction was completed and approved.
She told him that and was getting ready to leave but the attendant once
again urged her to come in to pay or else.....

She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his
threat.

He told her to calm down and to listen carefully:

He told her that while she was pumping gas, he saw a guy had slipped into
the back seat of her car and hid on the other side.

He had called the police.

She immediately became scared and looked out there in time to see her car
door open and the guy slip out.

The story went that it has to do with a test for the new gang initiation
thing which requires one to bring back a woman's body part..

One way they are doing this is crawling into girls/women's cars while the
target is pumping gas or at the grocery store at night time. Then, they will
cut off the victim's legs/ankles to disable them in order to kidnap them,
and later kill and dismember them.

The other method is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women
for the same purpose

Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike.

Ladies, be extra careful when going into your parked car at night.

Do not park at lonely or secluded places at any time of the day for the sake
of free parking!

If at all possible, don't drive alone at night!

This is real! Kidnapping! Murder! Dismemberment! These are all happening
here in Malaysia !!!
