Little Elephant¹s Story

Once upon a time there lived a little elephant in the far, far away jungle. But this little elephant was not a good boy, and never listen to what his mother tells him. She always says:” Be careful where you are going and don’t wonder around, because the jungle is not the safest place to be!”, but he didn’t care a lot about what his mother’s talking. One day he went to the river and the crocodile caught him. Little elephant tried to run away, but it was to late, the crocodile already got him. He started to yell, and good thing that his mother, father and all the family did heard his screaming, so they all run to the rescue and saved little elephant. From that day onwards this little elephant never was a bad bay and listened to his mother and became fine and big elephant! Always listen to your mothers!

The Sad Story of Wander The Abused Stray

I'm so furious about how animals are being treated in such manner!!!

For us, it was a bumpy start to the year - one of our volunteers, S, has been feeding the strays for many years and one of the strays named Wander that he has been feeding was badly abused by foreign worker. To many stray feeders, it's a heartbreaking sight for them because the strays are just like their own children. The stray feeders usually spend alot on food etc from their own pocket.

S then tried to self medicate the dog but unfortunately, the wound got really bad that escalated to wound infections. The rest of MWS volunteers got to know about Wander's plight and quickly raised funds to help in Wander's medical bills. Wander had been sent to vet today for medical treatment. Why would someone do such cruel thing to a poor defenceless life?

Our first sight of the dogs was shocking.
The purpose of this post is to document and highlight the current inhumane and abusive treatment of dogs in Singapore, with the hope that worldwide knowledge and attention will support and assist the people in securing adequate and necessary animal welfare protection.

We hate to think how many more strays are being abused and left to suffer to die out there. We know there are foreign workers who kill the strays for their meat.

It's time our local animal welfare should do something to these animal abusers. More harsh penalties should be imposed.

For now, please pray for Wander's speedy recovery.

Wander is currently recuperating at Mdm Wong Shelter.

Lastly, not forgetting S who saved her life. If Wander is left untreated in the wild, she would have die very soon.

Let's do our part in saving these strays and report when we witness any animal abuse.

Dolphin deaths spark renewed opposition to RWS plans

What on earth is happening? Animals are dying!!! Research is one thing but capturing them to entertain humans is cruelty. How you like to caged up and forcefully be taken away from home? :(

Activists say keeping dolphins in captivity lowers their life expectancy. (File photo)

Animal welfare activists are up in arms over Resorts World Sentosa‘s (RWS) decision to proceed with its plan to keep dolphins in its oceanarium despite the death of two of the seven bottlenose dolphins in its possession.

According to The Straits Times, the move has drawn flak from animal welfare groups who are urging the integrated resort to reconsider its decision to keep dolphins in its upcoming Marine Life Park.

The two female dolphins — caught from the wild in the Solomon Islands — died from a melioidosis bacterial infection while being held in the Malaysian island of Langkawi two months ago. Melioidosis is a soil-borne disease, with infections occurring primarily during the rainy season.

The deaths have again sparked fresh opposition to RWS’ plans to house the animals as entertainers. Last May, RWS scrapped a controversial plan to exhibit whale sharks. It explained that it might not be able to care for the animals which can grow up to 15m long and weigh up to 15 tonnes.

Marine conservationist Paul Watson told Today newspaper the “incarceration of dolphins lowers life expectancy of the animals”.

“It’s a trade based on blood and misery and has no place in the 21st century,” said the founder and president of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) executive director Deirdre Moss echoed his views.

”This is a tragedy. The animals were obviously under tremendous stress… If RWS could change its stand on whale sharks, why couldn’t they on dolphins?”

Mr Robin Goh, assistant director of communications at RWS, said the pair of dolphins were perfectly healthy prior to the infection. He added that other animals in holding have not shown any signs of infection.

As for the 18 dolphins being trained at Ocean Adventure Park in the Philippines for the Marine Life Park, RWS said they were in “good health”.

“We’re continuing with the development and establishment of the medical, behavioural, husbandry and training programmes that include the preventive medicine programme to ensure the well-being and health of the dolphins,” said Mr Goh.

The oceanarium — set to be the world’s largest aquarium – takes up a whopping 80,000 square metres, and was part of the resort’s proposal when Genting International won the bid to build the Sentosa integrated resort in 2006. It is scheduled to open next year.

“We’re committed to delivering the bid and the Marine Life Park that will not only boost tourism but research, conservation and education in marine mammals in this part of the region,” Mr Goh added.

However, Ms Moss reiterated: “It’s cruel to capture these animals from the wild with a view to entertain the public. We should promote tourism but not at the expense of these animals.”

Three Kick Rule

A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural North Cowra. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence.

As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it."

The old farmer Peter replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."

The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial lawyers in Australia and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own."

The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in North Cowra. We settle small disagreements like this with the 'Three Kick Rule.'

The lawyer asked, "What is the 'Three Kick Rule'?"

The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, I get to go first. I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up."

The lawyer quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel-toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees!

His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth. The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end, sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.

Summoning every bit of his will and remaining strength the lawyer very slowly managed to get to his feet.. Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old fart. Now it's my turn."

(I love this part)

The old farmer smiled and said, "Nah, I give up. You can have the duck."

MY DOG "SEX"

When I adopted a dog, I decided to give it an unusual name. After some hard thinking, I decided to call him "SEX". Well, SEX is a very embarrassing name.

One day I took SEX for a walk an he ran away from me. I spent hours looking for SEX. A policeman came along and asked me what I was doing in the alley at 4am in the morning. I said I was looking for SEX. My case came up in the following week.

One day, I went to get a license for SEX. The clerk asked me what I wanted. I told him I wanted a license for SEX. He said, "I would like to have one too." then I said, "You don't understand, I had SEX since I was ten years old." He replied, "You must have been a strong boy."

When I decided to get married, I told the minister I wanted to have SEX at the wedding. He told me to wait until after the wedding. I said, "But SEX has played a big part in my life and my whole lifestyle revolves around SEX." He said he did not want to hear about my personal life and would not marry us in this church. I told him everybody coming to the wedding would enjoy having SEX there. The next day, we were married by the justice of peace. My family was barred from the church.

My wife and I took the dog with us along on the honeymoon. When I checked into the motel, I told the clerk I wanted a room for my wife and myself and also a special room for SEX. The clerk said that every room in the motel is for SEX. Then I said, "You don't understand, SEX keeps me awake at night," and the clerk said, "Me too."

One day I told a friend I had SEX on TV. He said,"Show off." I told him it was a contest, and he told me I should have sold tickets.

When my wife and I separated, we went to court to fight custody of the dog. I said,"Your Honour, I had SEX before I was married." And the judge said,"Me too."

Well now, I have been thrown in jail, been married, divorced, and had more damned trouble with the dog than I ever bargained for. Why, just the other day, when I went for the first session with the psychiatrist and she asked me what the problem was, and I replied,"Hell, SEX has died and left my life. It's like losing a best friend and it's so lonely." The doctor said, "Look Mister, you and I know that SEX isn't a man's best friend, so get yourself a dog."

Employed VS Job Loss

Read the newspaper everyday & u can see the word 'Job Cut! Retrenchment! Salary Cut!' Well salary cut is better then job cut... at least u got some monies to pay off ur loan & maybe some left over to buy some food & entertainment!

Ever wander why some of ur friend get lay off first or have the first cut in salary while some still remain the same or worse still got some salary increment? Well read the following stories...

Story #1

Fox: "Do you know the time, because my watch is broken"

Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix the watch for you"

Fox: "Hmm... But it's a very complicated mechanism, and your big claws will only destroy it even more."

Lion: "Oh no, give it to me, and it will be fixed"

Fox: "That's ridiculous! Any fool knows that lazy lions with great claws cannot fix complicated watches"

Lion: "Sure they do, give it to me and it will be fixed"

The lion disappears into his cave, and after a while he comes back with the watch which is running perfectly. The fox is impressed, and the lion continues to lie lazily in the sun, looking very pleased with himself.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the lazy lion in the sun.

Wolf: "Can I come and watch TV tonight with you, because mine is broken"

Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix your TV for you"

Wolf: "You don't expect me to believe such rubbish, do you? There is no way that a lazy lion with big claws can fix a complicated TV.

Lion: "No problem. Do you want to try it?"

The lion goes into his cave, and after a while comes back with a perfectly fixed TV. The wolf goes away happily and amazed.

Scene : Inside the lion's cave. In one corner are half a dozen small and intelligent looking rabbits who are busily doing very complicated work with very detailed instruments. In the other corner lies a huge lion looking very pleased with himself.

Moral: IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY A MANAGER IS FAMOUS; LOOK AT THE WORK OF HIS SUBORDINATES.

Management Lesson in the context of the working world :

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY SOMEONE UNDESERVED IS PROMOTED; LOOK AT THE WORK OF HIS SUBORDINATES

Now if u r the 'subordinates' of such a Boss then u r safe from job cut b'cos ur Boss need u & what u can do. In bad economy period it pay to 'protect' ur Boss as indirectly u r 'protecting' urself!

Story # 2

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a rabbit is sitting outside his burrow, tippy-tapping on his typewriter. Along comes a fox, out for a walk.

Fox: "What are you working on?"

Rabbit: "My thesis."

Fox: "Hmm... What is it about?"

Rabbit: "Oh, I'm writing about how rabbits eat foxes."

Fox: "That's ridiculous ! Any fool knows that rabbits don't eat foxes!

Rabbit: "Come with me and I'll show you!"

They both disappear into the rabbit's burrow. After few minutes, gnawing on a fox bone, the rabbit returns to his typewriter and resumes typing.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hardworking rabbit.

Wolf: "What's that you are writing?"

Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves."

Wolf: "you don't expect to get such rubbish published, do you?"

Rabbit: "No problem. Do you want to see why?"

The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow and again the rabbit returns by himself, after a few minutes, and goes back to typing.

Finally a bear comes along and asks, "What are you doing?

Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat bears."

Bear: "Well that's absurd !"

Rabbit: "Come into my home and I'll show you"

Scene : As they enter the burrow, the rabbit introduces the bear to the lion.

Moral: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW SILLY YOUR THESIS TOPIC IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHOM YOU HAVE AS A SUPERVISOR.

Management Lesson in the context of the working world:

IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW BAD YOUR PERFORMANCE IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHETHER YOUR BOSS LIKES YOU OR NOT ( No longer applicable in bad economy time )

This is a very simple logic! Unpopular, unproductive stuff are the first to get the boot! So it pay to be 'productive', it might be a good ideal to learn new skill & most importantly show to ur Boss that u r a company 'asset' & not a 'liabilities' & of cause be in your Boss good book!

This post was taken from Hor ny Ang Moh's blog. Hopefully he don't mind one of this readers to share the good things from his blog :)

Dogs used as shark bait

Cruel ... dog with hook through snout

Cruel ... dog with hook through snout

Published: 28 Sep 2005

STRAY dogs are being skewered on hooks and dragged behind boats as live shark bait, The Sun can shockingly reveal. The cruel practice takes place on French-controlled Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, where Prince William spent two holidays.

A six-month-old labrador pup was recently found ALIVE with a huge double hook through its snout - like the dog above - and another through a leg.

The pup was found in a coastal creek and is thought to have somehow freed itself from a fishing line.

But other dogs and kittens have been chomped up and swallowed by sharks.

The RSPCA plans to petition the French government, demanding an end to the hideous torture.

Pls sign this petition to stop using dogs as Live Baits for Shark Fishing!
